It can be literally translated as ‘know thyself.’

“What does it really mean to know oneself?”
He looked at me and smirked as he responded...
“Does anyone ever know?”
He paused for a moment.
His countenance was pensive.
He appeared to drift into the depth of his thoughts.
I was afraid he was going too far for me to catch up.
He left me no choice. I had to interject.
“Stay with me. Please.”
He exhaled. I saw focus return to his deep brown eyes.
“Don’t float away too far when your mind wanders.”
“I’m sorry”
“It’s okay”
He’s an artist in the truest sense of the word. Tortured. Very much so.
He might be stereotypically evasive when I ask personal questions — but at least he’s honest about who he is.
